Iran's Petropars Operation and Management Company (POMC) will start drilling five wells at the 11th phase of Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (this field is called North Dome in Qatar) this summer, said Hamidrza Masudi, executive director of POMC, Trend reports citing Shana news agency.
According to Masudi, drilling of wells will be started in this phase after the installation of the jacket, if the weather conditions are favorable.
Masudi added that the installation of the facility as part of the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field has already been completed and is currently being loaded on board. It is hoped that the unit will be loaded within 15 days.
"The main reason for the delay in the development and deployment of the unit in the 11th phase is the spread of coronavirus in Iran," he said.
The official said that the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field, Bilal and Farzad fields have been handed over to Iran's POMC and work is being done in this direction.
The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field have reached 51 trillion cubic meters of gas (36 trillion extractable). At present, Iran's daily gas production from the South Pars gas field is more than 700 million cubic meters.
Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.
Gas from Iran's South Pars gas field is transported to refineries in the Pars Special Energy Economic Zone in the port city of Asaluyeh in Iran's southern Bushehr province via a pipeline.
France's Total and China's CNPCI withdrew from the project due to the US sanctions against Iran, and at present, Iran's Petropars Company is working on this phase.
