The cost of electricity imports in Georgia was up by 9.3 percent in 1Q2021 of this year, Trend reports via the Georgian Energy Market Operator (ESCO).
As reported, the country spent $31.6 million on the purchase of electricity ($28.9 million from January through March 2020).
Georgia purchased electricity from three countries. Of this, the largest volume of electricity was imported from Azerbaijan in early 2021.
1.Azerbaijan – $321 million;
2.Russia – $6 million;
3.Turkey – $4.5 million.
As of the ESCO, the volume of imported electricity in Georgia was grown by 93 percent in 1Q2021 amounting to 1.43 billion KWH.
Meanwhile, 41 percent of the electricity of imported in Georgia in the first 3 months of 2021. Imports growth are due to the Enguri HPP halt, as the HPP is under the rehabilitation process and is scheduled to open from May.
As for the electricity consumption, it was up by 3.3 percent amounting to 3.47 billion KWH. Telasi customers consumed 722 million KWH, while subscribers of Energo-Pro Georgia – 1.14 billion KWH.
