BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8. The electricity generation capacity of renewable energy power plants in Iran increased by 2 percent at the end of the 1st month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2023), compared to the end of the 12th month of the last year (February 20 through March 20, 2023), Trend reports via the statistics of the Iranian Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization.
At the end of the 1st month, the power generation capacity of Iran’s renewable energy power plants increased to about 1,043 megawatt-hours.
The electricity generation capacity of wind power plants was approximately 355 megawatt-hours for the reporting period, which accounted for 36.6 percent of total generation capacity.
Meanwhile, the power generation capacity of solar power plants in the country stood at approximately 450 megawatt-hours, which accounted for 45.3 percent of Iran's total renewable energy generation capacity.
Also, the power generation capacity of small hydropower plants in the country was approximately 101 megawatt-hours, which accounted for 10.4 percent of Iran's total renewable energy generation capacity.
At the end of the 1st month, the power generation capacity of biomass power plants was 12.5 megawatt hours, while the turboexpander units - 9.6 megawatt-hours.
Currently, the power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants including, thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc. is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent are accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.
