BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 30. Director of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA) under the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan Javid Abdullayev shared details of the creation of "green energy" zones in the liberated territories, Trend reports.

During an interview on Friday with a local TV channel, Abdullayev specified that based on the concept of "green energy zones" in the territories liberated from Armenian occupation developed by the Ministry of Energy, a "Road Map" and a detailed Action Plan for the creation of generation from water resources, solar and wind energy have been prepared.

"Certainly, every kilowatt-hour of electricity in the liberated territories is "green". This is taken into account starting from the planning stage of facilities that have appeared and will appear in the liberated territories," Abdullayev emphasized.

According to him, in the settlements that will be supplied with gas, solar panels with a capacity of at least 3 kW will be installed on all private houses, and in other settlements in the liberated territories, solar panels with a capacity of 5 kW will be installed.

Abdullayev noted that these indicators are the minimum requirements for power supply from solar panels; they are included in the normative legal acts and normative-technical documentation, and the responsible bodies monitor their compliance.

According to the Green Zones Concept, street lighting in settlements in the liberated and newly improved territories will also be powered by solar panels. Special heating systems will be applied in the territories where no gas supply to settlements will take place. There are certain nuances for administrative buildings.

The AREA Director mentioned that the most significant potential for solar energy is in the Zangilan-Jabrail zone, and for wind energy, in Lachin and Kalbajar.

As for hydroelectricity, the liberated territories account for a quarter of all hydroelectric resources in Azerbaijan.

According to the AREA director, with investment, this renewable energy potential can be put into operation quite quickly.

"By the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, a special working group has been created, which monitors the process of implementation of the Green Zones Concept in certain regions in the liberated territories every month," Abdullayev said.

In general, he said, the work on the creation of the concept of "green energy zones" in the liberated territories was carried out with the use of world experience, and such a concept for such a large area was prepared for the first time in Azerbaijan.
