BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 10. TotalEnergies, SOCAR, and ADNOC intend to approve FEED (Front End Engineering Design), the basic project for full-scale development of the Caspian gas condensate field Absheron, Trend reports, referring to TotalEnergies (the production operator), which quotes Jason Fish, director for development and joint ventures of the French company, who visited Baku.
"At full field development, incremental production (i.e., production from the Absheron Phase 2 development) is expected to be 110,000 barrels per day at peak (of which 35,000 barrels per day are condensate). Current concepts for full-scale development include significant subsea development of three or more additional deepwater wells associated with onshore facilities to receive, process, and export gas and liquids," Fish said.
''In July 2023, we, TotalEnergies, our Partners SOCAR and ADNOC, and our Operating Company JOCAP, started production from the Absheron Early Production Scheme (EPS), which is a single deepwater well tied back via a multi-phasic flowline to a new build platform located adjacent to and connected to SOCAR’s existing production facilities at Oil Rocks,'' emphasized Fish.
"The ABD-001 well drilled at Absheron as part of the EPS is the deepest well drilled in the Caspian Sea to date—7,411 meters. The EPS innovations include the use of PiP (“pipe-in-pipe”) insulation technology for the first time in the Caspian Sea. The platform operation is controlled remotely by the operators of the control room located at Oil Rocks, 3 km away from the platform itself and 34 km away from the well. It should be emphasized that about 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day are recovered, of which 13,000 barrels per day are condensate. This production performance demonstrates not only the quality of the reservoir, which greatly reduces the uncertainty of the remaining resources, but also the success of the project's technical and commercial synergies with existing third-party systems. This collaboration provides confidence for the full development phase of this field (Phase 2)," Fish said.
Green achievements at the Absheron field include a greenhouse gas emissions intensity of less than 1 kilogram of CO2 equivalent per barrel of oil equivalent.
"The EPS platform at Absheron is fully electric; there is no gas flaring and no need for ventilation. We have recently ensured the platform is gas-tight following studies using AUSEA drones to detect methane. Such studies are best-in-class and fully aligned with TotalEnergies' ambitions to produce more energy with fewer emissions," the company notes.
