Türkiye counts STAR refinery's share in oil purchases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 29. Türkiye imported 15.818 million tons of oil from January through June 2024, of which 34.3 percent was the volume of oil purchased by STAR Refinery (controlled by SOCAR) operating near Izmir, the statement of Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) said, Trend reports.

Thus, STAR refinery imported 5.43 million tons of crude oil in the first half of the year (down 5 percent from January through June 2023).

TUPRAS was the largest oil buyer in Türkiye with 10.387 million tons (up 20.3 percent) for its refineries.

Overall, Türkiye increased its oil imports by 10.2 percent year-on-year from January through June.

The STAR refinery was commissioned on October 19, 2018, and is capable of processing up to 13 million tons of crude oil per year.
