Iran’s government intends to promote the Maku Free Zone development plans that would include various projects.
“Implementation of the Maku Free Zone development plans would improve the government’s economic development policies in free zones,” said Managing Director of Maku Free Zone Organization Gholamreza Soleimani, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.
He noted a total of 239 plans have been drafted for development of the free zone.
Soleimani indicated that the Ana Vatan transportation complex is set to open by May, while other projects include completing a logistics chain, installing industrial refrigerators for private sector, construction of a highway.
“The free zone aims to offer special discounts for air tickets for tourists and has plans on tourism with Turkey,” he added.
The official stated that a complete list of development projects in the Maku Free Zone will be announced.
The Maku Free Trade and Industrial Zone is Iran’s seventh largest free zone with an area of 500,000 hectares. Maku is located in northwestern Iran. The Maku Free Zone has international borders with Turkey and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. It is a transit route for goods traded with Central Asia and Eastern Europe and is one the most important zones in global trade.
