ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 8. As many as 81.2 million active payment cards from 17 banks and Kazpost JSC were used in Kazakhstan by June 1, 2025, which indicates a steady growth of non-cash transactions.
The data obtained by Trend from the country's National Bank indicates that debit cards remain the most in-demand type, accounting for 80.6 percent of the total. Credit cards hold second place at 15.7 percent, while the remaining 3.7 percent are prepaid cards and debit cards with a credit limit. Both international payment systems - VISA, MasterCard, UnionPay, American Express - and the local brand Kaspi.kz are actively used in the country, with Kaspi.kz showing strong market growth.
Considering Kazakhstan’s population of about 20 million, the average citizen holds several cards, indicating a high level of digital financial engagement.
