Iran has shut down some stores in Tehran selling products of Apple, California-based multinational technology company.
The closure of the stores has led to an increase in the Apple products’ prices, especially in the prices for iPhones, said Gholam-Hossein Karimi, head of Iran’s Union of Communications Systems, Mehr reported July 22.
He said Apple hasn’t its own official stores in Iran, but two Iranian companies had licenses to import iPhones from Hong Kong and Dubai.
“The licenses have expired recently, so the stores have been shut down,” said Karimi.
He also criticized the removal of the smuggled iPhones from market by the police and said “this would lead to chaos”.
About 10 million cell phones are smuggled into Iran annually, Karimi told IRNA in March.
