Baku Telephone Communications LLC plans to build a scalable IP/MPLS network in Azerbaijan in 2019, the company told Trend.
This network will allow increasing the volume of network traffic to one terabit or more, according to the company.
“The volume of traffic consumption is growing quite dynamically,” the company said. “Although its scale doesn’t reach one terabit yet, this year alone, traffic consumption increased in the country by about 30 percent.”
The company is deploying Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON). For the first time this technology was launched into commercial operation this year. The test network deployed by the operator is ready to serve about 60,000 subscribers.
The company’s plans for 2019 include increasing this indicator by more than 100,000 connections, and this will ensure approximately 20 percent of fiber optic network penetration in the consumer segment.
“In parallel, we are actively deploying LTE networks in the suburbs,” the company said. “A question may arise regarding conflicts of interest with mobile operators, however we have an agreement with them that our LTE network doesn’t affect their interests.”
“We are deploying LTE networks in those locations where there is a need for operational connection of 200-300 end subscribers,” the company noted. “The work on deploying the LTE network has been going on since the middle of this year, and so far, we have installed approximately 100 base stations. This is while the number of connections to our LTE network now reaches 3,000.”
