Georgian capital of Tbilisi is named the best travel destination for 2020 and the winner of the online voting of Ireland’s low-cost airline Ryanair, Trend reports citing Georgian media.
The poll was conducted at Ryanair’s instagram page, and as a result, Tbilisi has defeated Rome, Santorini, Paris, Mallorca and Barcelona.
After voting ended, the airline shared a video about Georgia on Instagram.
"We just crowned Tbilisi as Ryanair’s 2020 destination face-off winner in our Stories. Welcome to Georgia," Ryanair posted on Instagram.
Recently, Ryanair has also published an article about Georgia on its official webpage, calling Tbilisi “one of the fastest-growing, hippest capitals in Europe”.
“The charming cobbled city set in the valley of the Mtkvari [Kura] river is a must for travel explorers and foodies alike, with local Eastern European cuisine and a close-up look at Georgia’s intriguing history everywhere you turn", Ryanair says.
Ryanair began operating in the Georgian aviation market in the fall of 2019. Currently, the company operates flights to Tbilisi from Milan, and from Marseille and Bologna to Kutaisi. From April 2020, Ryanair will add flights from Tbilisi to Cologne to be operated twice a week.
The Irish airline Ryanair is the largest low cost airline in Europe. The main office is located in Swords, County Dublin. It is founded by Irish millionaires Tony Ryan, Chris Ryan and Liam Lonergan in 1984 .
