The mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) was exported from the Amirabad port of the Mazandaran Province (northern Iran) to the Russian Astrakhan port for the first time, Director General of the Amirabad Port and Maritime Department Mohammad Ali Asl Saeedipour said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.
According to him, previously, Iran's mono-ethylene glycol product was exported to China, the east and south-east through the Persian Gulf. It was possible to export this product by creating conditions for storage in the Amirabad port, and thus, it was exported in 9 TEU containers.
Saeedipour added that the MEG product is used in the manufacturing of textiles, leather, antifreeze, polymer rubber, construction materials, tire and etc.
The director general noted that given the conditions created for the exports in the Amirabad port, it is hoped that exports to other CIS countries will increase in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
As reported, the volume of cargo loaded and unloaded in the Amirabad port decreased by 35 percent in the first month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2021), compared to the same month last Iranian year. About 255,000 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in the Amirabad port over the first month.
About 72,000 tons of cargo were exported and 174,000 tons were imported through the Amirabad port in the 1st month
