The loading and unloading operations at Iran’s Amirabad port in the Mazandaran Province (northern Iran) will increase significantly in the future, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran and Head of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), Ali Akbar Safaei said, Trend reports citing PMO’s website.
He made the remark while getting acquainted with Amirabad port.
The chairman said that the PMO has prepared several programs in cooperation with the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development in a direction to increase maritime trade with the countries in northern Iran via Amirabad port.
Safaei added that at present, the Amirabad port has a great potential for cargo loading/unloading. Ships of different sizes can be loaded and unloaded at this port. The port is one of the most important ports in northern Iran for the import of essential goods.
“During the first 9 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2021), over 2.8 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in the Amirabad port. This is an increase of 14 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year,” he noted.
The deputy minister also pointed out that the PMO has allocated more than 2.5 trillion rials (about $59.5 million) to improve the infrastructure of the port.
“In addition, the organization holds various discussions with the investors of the private sector to implement selected projects in the port. More than 7 trillion rials (about $167 million) is to be allocated in this regard,” Safaei said.
