ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 19. In the first seven months of 2025, the production of freight semi-wagons in Kazakhstan increased fivefold, while the production of flatcars increased 2.2 times, said Minister of Industry and Construction Yersayin Nagaspayev at a government meeting, Trend reports via Kazakhstan Railways.
According to him, the railway industry accounts for 13 percent of the total machine-building volume in the country. Last year, sector enterprises produced goods worth 600 billion tenge ($1.14 billion), which is 25 percent more than the previous year’s figure.
“Overall, over the past five years, there has been a growth in investment activity in the sector due to the implementation of programs aimed at stimulating the renewal of the national operator’s wagon fleet. As a result, leading global brands such as Wabtec, Alstom, and Stadler have entered the industry,” noted the minister.
Currently, 60 enterprises operate in the railway engineering sector with a total workforce of over eight thousand employees.
Yersayin Nagaspayev reported that, in accordance with the directives of the President of Kazakhstan on the development of the manufacturing industry and deepening localization in Kazakhstan, projects in the railway engineering sector are being implemented. The creation of new production facilities is underway in Astana, Ekibastuz, Semey, and the Atyrau region.
