Kazakhstan's Abai region brings in significant investments

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 24. Kazakhstan's Abai region attracted investments worth 230.5 billion Kazakh tenge ($516.9 million) in the first half of 2023, Trend reports.

According to the region's akimat (administration), a significant portion of the investments, amounting to 163.1 billion Kazakh tenge ($365.7 million), came from the enterprises' and organizations' own funds. Additionally, 22.2 billion Kazakh tenge ($49.7 million) was sourced from the national budget and 23.6 billion Kazakh tenge ($52.9 million) from the local budget.

During this period, the region's enterprises produced goods worth 673.6 billion Kazakh tenge ($1.5 billion). The mining and quarrying industry, contributing 56.3 percent of the total output, led the charge with 379.5 billion Kazakh tenge ($851.1 million) in production, followed by the processing industry at 269.2 billion Kazakh tenge ($603.7 million).

The agricultural sector in the region is also making substantial strides, witnessing an impressive increase in gross output, reaching 143.7 billion Kazakh tenge. Moreover, the livestock population is on the rise, with 863,700 heads of cattle, 1.4 million sheep, 385,500 horses, and 1.4 million poultry.

Furthermore, as noted by the akimat, the Abai region has successfully completed its sowing campaign, which envisaged utilizing a total area of 654.2 hectares. Among these, 297,300 hectares were dedicated to cereal crops, 306,200 hectares to oilseed crops, 7,700 hectares to potatoes, 3,600 hectares to vegetables, and 2,000 hectares to melon crops.
