ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 19. Kazakhstan continues to increase export cargo flow to China through the Dostyk-Alashankou border railway crossing, Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national company) said, Trend reports.
At the end of this year, the total volume of transportation at the junction is planned and agreed upon at 14.4 million tons, of which 10 million tons are for export.
For 9 months of this year, the volume of cargo transportation amounted to 11.9 million tons, which is 10 percent higher than the OSJD (Organization for Cooperation of Railways) plan and 17.5 percent higher than the same figure last year.
On October 16, 2023, a record number of freight trains were transferred through the Dostyk-Alashankou crossing in one day: 17 trains (over 720 wagons). This result was achieved due to the efficient operation of the station.
In 2022, Kazakhstan’s trade turnover with China amounted to $24.1 billion, which is 34.1 percent more than a year earlier.
Exports from Kazakhstan increased over the year by 34.7 percent, to $13.2 billion. The share of Kazakhstan's exports to China accounted for a significant 15.6 percent of the country's total trade turnover.
Imports from China to Kazakhstan grew by 33.5 percent over the year, to $11 billion. China's share in the structure of imports from the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to 21.9 percent.
