ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 27. The number of passengers carried by Kazakhstan's airlines will be about 13 million by the end of 2023, with an expected growth of 23 percent compared to 2022, Trend reports.

According to the official data, the number of passengers served at the country's airports is expected to be more than 25 million, which is 22 percent more than last year.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan is taking consistent steps to develop air transport in the country.

Thus, in 2023, the aircraft fleet of Kazakh airlines increased from 89 to 98 units, and the seat capacity increased from 12,000 to 15,000 (an increase of 26 percent). All this will improve the regularity of flights and the accessibility of air travel in general.

At the same time, thanks to private investment, three new passenger terminals are being built in the airports of Shymkent, Kyzylorda, and Almaty. The completion of work is expected next year.

Moreover, Kazakhstan has established international flights with 28 countries today. Flights are operated on 108 routes with a frequency of 550 flights per week by 4 Kazakh and 30 foreign air carriers.

This year, flights were opened and resumed on 23 routes to 13 countries: Lahore, Muscat, Manama, Delhi, Sharm El Sheikh, Beijing, Xi'an, Urumqi, Samarkand, Baku, Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Bishkek, Ankara, Hangzhou, and Jeddah.

In addition, the largest low-cost airline in Southeast Asia, AirAsia, announced the launch of direct flights between Almaty and Kuala Lumpur in March 2024.
