ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 22. The implementation of projects for the construction of three thermal power plants (TPP) in Kazakhstan will be ensured through preferential export financing from the country producing this energy equipment, said First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar, Trend reports.
He made the remark in response to questions from MPs during a joint meeting of the chambers of Parliament.
"An agreement was signed on the construction of three TPPs in the cities of Kokshetau, Semey, and Ust-Kamenogorsk and the construction of the third power unit of GRES-2. These projects will be supported by preferential export financing from the country producing this energy equipment," he said.
According to Sklyar, currently, the country's energy sources have a capacity of 21,000 MW, but the actual available capacity falls short at slightly less than 16,000 MW.
"During peak load hours, we purchase about 2,000 MW of electrical energy from other countries. This is, of course, a lot. In this connection, there is an urgent need for the construction of new energy sources," he noted.
On November 13, the energy ministers of Kazakhstan and Russia, Almassadam Satkaliyev and Nikolay Shulginov, signed a memorandum of cooperation on projects for the construction of three TPPs in Kazakhstan.
The construction of a 240-MW TPP in Kokshetau is envisaged for 2027. A 360-MW thermal power facility is also considered for construction in the vicinity of Semey. The development of a TPP in Ust-Kamenogorsk is scheduled until 2035.
As a source at Inter RAO previously told Trend, the total capacity of the Kokshetau TPP, Semey TPP, and Ust-Kamenogorsk TPP will be 1 GW.
To note, Inter RAO is an energy company that manages assets in Russia, as well as in Europe and the CIS. Its scope of activity includes the production and sale of electrical and thermal energy, international energy trading, engineering, design, and construction of energy facilities.
