ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 10. Qatari QazAir Investments will begin construction of a new airport terminal at Atyrau airport in Kazakhstan in 2025, the Kazakh Transport Ministry told Trend.
The Qatari investor will also carry out a complete modernization and expansion of the infrastructure, as well as renovation of the current airport building.
The area of the new terminal will be 16,500 square meters. The investor will equip the facility with 3 new jet bridges.
Construction of the new airport complex at Atyrau airport will be completed in 2026.
After completion of the work, passenger traffic will increase from 800,000 passengers/year to about 2.944 million passengers/year.
It is also planned to expand the geography of flights significantly. Firstly, new flights will be opened to popular tourist destinations in Europe and Asia.
Meanwhile, Air Astana carried 4 million passengers, with a constant average load factor of 82 percent from January through June 2024.
Thus, compared to the same period in 2023, the number of passengers carried increased by 14.6 percent, and the average load factor decreased by 0.7 percent (in the first half of 2023: 82.7 percent).
