BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 8. Kyrgyzstan transported 2.586 million tons of cargo by rail from January through March 2025, marking a 28 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024 (2.019 million tons).
According to data obtained by Trend from the country’s Statistical Committee, the volume of dispatched cargo grew from 717,100 tons in 2024 to 1.047 million tons in 2025, an increase of 46.1 percent. Meanwhile, arrivals rose from 1.639 million tons to 2.165 million tons—up by 32.1 percent year-on-year.
The rail freight turnover in January–March 2025 amounted to 321.4 million ton-kilometers, which is 33.8 percent higher than in the same period of 2024.
Overall, a total of 13.290 million tons of cargo were transported by all modes of transport in Kyrgyzstan in the first quarter of 2025, showing a 10.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Rail transport accounted for nearly 20 percent of this total.
The freight turnover of all modes of transport in Kyrgyzstan totaled 828 million ton-kilometers in January–March 2025, which is an increase of 75.5 million ton-kilometers, or 10 percent, compared to the same period in 2024
