DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, June 7. Taxi companies in Tajikistan's capital, Dushanbe, are mandated to fully transition to electric vehicles by September 1, 2025, Trend reports.

This directive was issued by Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali as part of the implementation of the State Program for the Development of Electric Transport in Tajikistan for 2023-2028 and the Concept for Transition to an Electric System for Urban Passenger Transport for 2023-2026, the mayor's press service states.

In 2022, Tajikistan amended its tax code to exempt owners of electric vehicles from duties upon importation into the country. A strategy has also been adopted to develop electric transport in the country until 2028, aiming to increase the share of electric vehicles to 20–30 percent of the total vehicle fleet.

Meanwhile, the Accelerating the Transition to Electric Mobility in Public Transport in the Asia-Pacific Region, Phase II project in Tajikistan, supported by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), is expected to conclude by the end of 2026. The second phase of the project began in May 2024. Tajikistan's Ministry of Transport plans to develop a regional roadmap under this initiative to finance the transition to public electric transport and attract foreign investment.
