Tajikistan's Sughd updates progress in cotton harvesting

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 8. Farms in the Sughd region have harvested 35,429 tons of cotton as of October 8, 2024, Trend reports.

According to the regional chairman's office, this represents 26.3 percent of the planned target. Cotton growers in the region aim to produce a total of 134,530 tons of cotton this year.

In the nation's Spitamen district, 5,855 tons of cotton have been harvested, which meets 40 percent of the target. Meanwhile, in the Bobojon-Ghafurov district, 7,090 tons of cotton have been collected, corresponding to 37.9 percent of the plan.

As of the beginning of October 2024, cotton has been planted on 174,979 hectares in Tajikistan, with 436,280 tons collected, yielding 9.6 quintals per hectare, according to the country's Ministry of Agriculture.

In 2023, the total agricultural output in Tajikistan reached 63.028 billion somoni (approximately $5.9 billion). This includes 43.36 billion somoni ($4.081 billion) from crop production and 19.662 billion somoni ($1.8 billion) from livestock production.

Public enterprises contributed 9.8 percent of the total agricultural output, while dehkan (household) farms accounted for 41.1 percent, and private households made up 49.1 percent.
