BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 25. Turkmenistan is working on the creation and implementation of legislation related to greenhouse gases, Director of Global Campaigns, Clean Air Task Force (CATF) James Turitto said, Trend reports.

He made the remark at a preconference session titled "Green energy transition in Turkmenistan: getting ready to the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement within the 29th “Oil & Gas of Turkmenistan -2024” (OGT 2024) International Conference & Expo in Ashgabat.

"We are in negotiations with the UNECE [United Nations Economic Commission for Europe] and are working in collaboration with the US government, CLDP [Commercial Law Development Program], and other organizations to provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan on regulatory policy issues. This support aims to create and implement legislation on greenhouse gases, as well as regulations and standards governing methane emissions.

Specifically, work is underway in the oil and gas sector to develop a policy for reducing methane emissions. One of the key tools used by CATF in its work with governments is a country-based inventory tool for reducing methane emissions, for which we held a training session in March for the Ministry of Environmental Protection, as well as for the Turkmengas and Turkmennebit companies. This tool helps identify the main sources of methane emissions in Turkmenistan and develop a work plan that will assist in achieving the set goals for 2025," he added.

The OGT 2024 forum serves as an international platform, which brings together leading national and international oil and gas companies, industry experts, and financial institutions. The main goal of the event is to strengthen the dialogue on the sustainable development of the energy sector and attract investments into Turkmenistan's oil and gas industry.

The forum will discuss the prospects for developing fields, modernizing processing facilities, implementing advanced technologies, and addressing the environmental aspects of hydrocarbon extraction.
