TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, June 3. The Hydroproject Design, Survey and Research Institute named after S.Y. Zhuk, which is part of Rushydro Group, will develop projects for the construction of two hydroelectric power plants (HPP) in Uzbekistan, Trend reports.
According to Rushydro, the work on the Karateren and Aydarkul HPPs is planned to be completed in early 2025.
The capacity of Karateren HPP in turbine mode will be 500 MW, and in pumping mode, it will be 600 MW. The capacity of the Aydarkul hydroelectric power plant will be 250 MW in turbine mode and 300 MW in pumping mode.
These projects are necessary to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of Uzbekistan's energy system, especially taking into account the planned introduction of significant capacities for solar and wind generation.
Earlier in April 2024, Hydroproject signed two agreements for the design of the two HPPs with the Unitary Enterprise Construction Directorate No.1, part of Uzbekhydroenergo. Hydroproject's proposal was selected by the customer following open tender procedures.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan plans to increase its share of renewable energy to 40 percent by 2030.
The country will connect the first 2.6 GW of 14 solar and wind power plants to the grid this year. As a result, the share of renewable energy in Uzbekistan's total electricity generation will increase from 9 percent to 15 percent.
