Uzbekistan gives out nation's potato harvest volume in 1H2024

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 16. All types of farms in Uzbekistan produced 1.7 million tons of potatoes from January through June 2024, Trend reports.

According to the data from Uzbekistan's Statistics Agency, this figure represents a 6.2 percent growth compared to the same period last year (1.6 million tons in January–June 2023).

The country's farms produced 225,700 tons of potatoes, dehkan (large private farms that belong to legal entities) and subsidiary farms (1.4 million tons), and agricultural organizations (14,900 tons).

During this period, a significant share of potato production fell on the Samarkand region (18.6 percent), among Uzbekistan's regions. Surkhandarya region (13.3 percent) ranked second, followed by Fergana region (12 percent). Sirdarya (1.8 percent) and the Jizzakh region (0.8 percent) had the lowest share.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan exported 1 million tons of fruit and vegetables worth $607.3 million from January through June 2024. This figure has increased by 4.6 percent compared to the same period last year (955,200 tons in January–June 2023).

Russia accounted for the largest volume of horticultural product exports from Uzbekistan, with a total volume of 348,400 tons worth $250.1 million. Kazakhstan ranked second with 335,800 tons of exports worth $101.7 million, followed by Pakistan with 89,000 tons of horticultural products exported worth $92.7 million from January through June 2024.
