TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, February 1. Uzbekistan held an inauguration ceremony of the Hisorak small hydropower plant in Shahrisabz district of Kashkadarya region, Uzbekhydroenergo (Uzbekistan's hydropower company) told Trend.
The company has commissioned the Hisorak small hydropower plant, which has a capacity of 3.5 MW and is expected to generate an average of 17.5 million kWh of electricity per year.
Furthermore, the construction of the plant was fully carried out within the framework of localization. Design and construction work were performed by Hydropower Design Institute and Hydrotechnical Contractor.
The project has an estimated cost of $1.5 million. The operation of the plant will save approximately 5 million cubic meters of natural gas annually, and the electricity generated will supply power to 7,300 households.
Meanwhile, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during a meeting held on the development of the electricity sector in 2025–2035, noted that over the past eight years, electricity production in Uzbekistan had increased by 38 percent, reaching 81.5 billion kWh.
The private sector expansion created an additional 11.2 GW of capacity, bringing the private sector's share of generation to 24 percent and the green energy share to 16 percent.
