BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. Uzbekistan and Pakistan discussed prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation, with particular attention to strengthening parliamentary ties and broadening political, trade, investment and regional engagement.

This was reflected in the statement by the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan following the meeting between First Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan’s Senate Oliy Majlis Sodiq Safoyev and newly appointed Pakistani Ambassador to Uzbekistan Muhammad Mudassir Tipu to review the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations.

The sides noted that Uzbek-Pakistani relations have developed dynamically in recent years, with practical cooperation expanding across political, trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian areas.

"It was noted that in recent years, bilateral relations have been developing dynamically, and practical cooperation in political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other fields has been expanding," the senate said in the statement.

Particular attention was given to strengthening interparliamentary ties. The officials exchanged views on sharing legislative experience, expanding the activities of parliamentary friendship groups and increasing cooperation between regions of the two countries.

They also discussed opportunities for closer coordination and mutual support within international parliamentary organizations.

The expansion of parliamentary diplomacy could provide an additional platform for advancing broader bilateral cooperation, particularly by connecting political dialogue with trade, investment and regional initiatives.

The sides agreed to continue efforts to further develop interparliamentary cooperation in the interests of the peoples of Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
