BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. Uzbekistan’s state-owned oil and gas company Uzbekneftegaz and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) have discussed expanding cooperation in oil and gas exploration, drilling, production efficiency and fuel supplies during a meeting in Tashkent on October 20.

This was reflected in the statement by the Uzbekneftegaz, following a meeting between Uzbekneftegaz Chairman Abdugani Sanginov and a CNPC delegation led by company President Zhou Xinhuai to review ongoing projects, accelerate joint initiatives and explore new areas of cooperation.

The sides reviewed joint work in drilling, geological exploration, seismic surveys, improving gas recovery rates at fields, digitalization, engineering and the supply of modern equipment. Projects involving CNPC subsidiaries Xibu, BGP, CCDC and CNLC were highlighted as contributing to the development of Uzbekistan’s technological capabilities in the oil and gas sector.

In addition, the meeting focused on efforts to address the consequences of an accident at the M-25 field. The project includes plans to drill rescue wells as part of the response, according to the statement.

The sides also discussed diversifying sources of petroleum product supplies to ensure stable fuel availability in Uzbekistan’s domestic market. They expressed readiness to develop long-term supply mechanisms and improve coordination between the relevant companies.

As cooperation expands, the parties considered establishing a permanent CNPC representative office in Tashkent and developing administrative infrastructure to coordinate joint projects. Moreover, they discussed opportunities to support social initiatives.

The talks included support for the Tashkent branch of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, with a focus on training qualified engineering and technical specialists to meet the needs of Uzbekistan’s oil and gas industry and future projects.

The sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the partnership, introducing new technological solutions and advancing joint initiatives toward practical implementation.
