BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 10. The volume of rapeseed production in Iran increased to 240,000 tons in the period from March 20 through July 8, 2024, the official representative of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Sadullah Mansouri said, Trend reports.

According to him, 240,000 tons of rapeseed were harvested from 120,000 ha in Iran during the mentioned period. Last year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), 138,000 tons of rapeseed were harvested from 88,000 ha in the country.

Mansouri stated that operations to harvest rapeseed from 25,000 ha are ongoing in the country. A total of more than 270,000 tons of rapeseed is expected to be harvested in the country this year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025).

The official noted that the price of 1 kg of rapeseed in the country this year is 350,000 rials (about $0.89). This price is expected to rise further in the coming years, and farmers' interest in rapeseed cultivation will increase.

To note, the consumption of vegetable oils in Iran is about 1 million tons per year. Domestic production provides 10 percent of it, and imports provide 90 percent. Iran plans to ensure 70 percent of vegetable oil consumption through domestic production by 2025.
