BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20. Iran's steel exports increased by 0.6 percent during four months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through July 21, 2024) compared to the same period last year (March 21 through July 22, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Steel Producers Association said, Trend reports.
Iran hit the ground running and sent a whopping 10.2 million tons of steel packing during the four months. Nonetheless, 10.1 million tons of steel were exported by Iran during the corresponding period last year.
The four-month total for Iran's crude steel exports was 2.13 million tons. There was a 23 percent decline in crude steel exports as compared to the corresponding time last year. Iran exported 2.76 million tons of crude steel at the same time last year.
The exports of steel products amounted to about 1.22 million tons in the four months. Compared to the same period last year, exports of steel products for four months increased by 12.7 percent. In the same period last year, Iran exported 1.08 million tons of steel products.
The sponge iron exports from Iran for four months amounted to 449,000 tons. Sponge iron exports decreased by 23 percent compared to the same period last year. During the same period last year, Iran exported 580,000 tons of sponge iron.
Furthermore, Iran exported about 3.85 million tons of iron ore pellets during the 4 months. Exports of iron ore pellets increased by 17 percent compared to the same period last year. In the same period last year, iron ore pellet exports amounted to 3.29 million tons.
However, Iran's iron ore concentrate exports during the four months amounted to 2.52 million tons. Compared to the same period last year, iron ore concentrate exports increased by 5.1 percent. During the same period last year, Iran exported 2.4 million tons of iron ore concentrate.
To note, Iran's steel production potential is about 40 million tons per year. Iran plans to increase its steel production capacity to 55 million tons by 2025.
