BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 12. Iran has exported 1,640 kilograms of caviar during the six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024), chairperson of Iran's Aquatic Production and Trade Union Ali Akbar Khodaei told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Iran's caviar exports totaled 952 kilograms, and six months into the current Iranian year compared to the same period previous year show a 72 percent increase.
Khodaei added that Iranian caviar is mainly exported to European countries, including the Netherlands and Spain.
The official noted that Iran's caviar production and exports are expected to increase in the coming years.
Meanwhile, 195 sturgeon farming enterprises are currently operating in 22 of Iran's 31 provinces. Of these, production is high in 150 of them, while 45 facilities are privately owned.
Iran has set a goal to raise 20,000 tons of sturgeon meat and 140 tons of caviar in the country over the next 10 years.
To note, Iran produced more than 21 tons of caviar and 4,766 tons of sturgeon fish last year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024) from sturgeon fish raised in cages in 22 provinces of the country.
