BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 14. The wheat sowing in Iran has increased to 6.39 million hectares, the official representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Sohrab Sohrabi told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, the current wheat area for arable farming is 4.22 million ha, and for conventional agriculture, 2.17 million ha.
Sohrabii noted that 390,000 tons of genetically modified seeds have been handed over to farmers since the beginning of the planting season.
Meanwhile, about 12 million tons of wheat worth more than 2.11 quadrillion rials (about $3.65 billion) have been purchased with a guarantee from farmers in Iran from April 10 through September 21, 2024. The volume of purchased wheat increased by 16 percent compared to last year.
To note, for the current year (2025), it was agreed to purchase wheat in Iran from farmers with a guarantee of 205,000 rials (about $0.35) per 1 kg.
