BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 16. Iran's dates are primarily exported to countries within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), East Asia, and European Union (EU) member states, Mohsen Rashid Farrokhi, chairman of the National Date Association of Iran, told reporters, Trend reports.
Speaking to local media, Farrokhi shared that Iran exports around 30 percent of its annual date production, which amounts to roughly 350,000 tons valued at $400 million.
Farrokhi also noted that Iran harvests over 1.4 million tons of dates from 300,000 hectares of orchards.
Iran ranks second globally in terms of date varieties, with Egypt taking the top spot, Farrokhi added.
The official further mentioned that 70 percent of the dates produced in Iran are consumed domestically. The main regions for date cultivation in Iran include Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan, Khuzestan, Bushehr, Fars, and Kerman provinces.
To note, a whopping 1.66 million tons of dates have been harvested from date orchards in Iran during the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2024, through March 20, 2025).
