BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 18. National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO) plans to launch new facilities as part of development projects worth $126 million by the end of the current year in Iran (March 20, 2025), Trend reports via NICICO.
According to the NICICO, five new facilities are expected to be operational by March of the following year. Meanwhile, it is expected that these new inflows will significantly increase the company's copper production capacity.
The NICICO has successfully inaugurated six facilities across various sectors over the past ten months (from March 20, 2024, through January 19, 2025), investing a total of 741 million euros. One example is the commissioning of several copper processing plants, which required an investment of 690 million euros. These facilities are capable of producing a total of 310,000 tons of copper concentrate annually.
To note, the National Iranian Copper Industries Company produced 252 million tons of copper mineral during the ten months of the current year, marking a growth of eight percent from the same period of last year.
Moreover, over 50 million tons of sulfur ore were produced, reflecting a 7 percent rise compared to the previous year.
Furthermore, NICICO produced more than 50 million tons of sulfur stone in the reporting period, up seven percent from the same period last Iranian year.
The data of the National Iranian Copper Industries Company shows that copper reserves in the country amount to 19 billion tons. Sarcheshmeh and Sungun are considered the main copper mines in Iran.
