Iran's renewable energy production potential grows

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 11. Iran's potential for renewable electricity production has increased, reaching over 1,500 megawatts by the end of the eleventh month of the Iranian year (February 18, 2025), Trend reports via Iran's Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA).

The total potential of renewable energy in Iran now represents about 0.7 percent of the country's electricity production capacity.

The report highlights that solar panels in Iran have the potential to produce 810 megawatts of electricity, accounting for 60 percent of the renewable energy stations' total electricity production capacity.

Wind power plants have the potential to generate 376 megawatts of electricity, making up 29 percent of the total renewable energy production capacity in the country.

The potential of small hydropower plants is 104 megawatts, which represents 8% of the renewable energy sector's capacity in Iran.

Biomass stations have the potential to generate 22.1 megawatts of electricity, making up 2 percent of the country's renewable energy production capacity.

Additionally, expansion turbines have the potential to generate 9.6 megawatts, representing 1 percent of Iran's renewable electricity production.

Iran's electricity production potential previously stood at 93,455 megawatts. The production potential of Iran's thermal power plants is 76,257 megawatts, the production potential of hydroelectric power plants is 12,144 megawatts, the production potential of retail power plants is 2,485 megawatts, the production potential of renewable power plants is 1,450 megawatts, the production potential of the Bushehr nuclear power plant is 1,020 megawatts, and the production potential of diesel units is 408 megawatts.
