BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 11. Iran’s imports from Turkmenistan have seen a decline by 72.5 percent in value and 68.2 percent in weight during the current Iranian year’s two-month period (from March 21 through May 21, 2025) compared to the same period last year (from March 20 through May 20, 2024).
Data obtained by Trend from the country's Customs Administration indicates that Iran imported goods worth $980,000, amounting to 923,000 tons, from Turkmenistan during this period. In contrast, during the same timeframe last year, imports stood at approximately $3.57 million in value and 2,900 tons in weight.
The imported goods included petroleum coke, cotton, fabrics, and other products.
The report also highlighted that Iran’s non-oil trade turnover with Turkmenistan reached around $83.4 million in value and 251,000 tons in weight during the two months. This marks an increase of 13 percent in value and 2.44 percent in weight compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Iran’s overall non-oil imports during this period totaled $8.47 billion in value and 5.92 million tons in weight. Compared to the same period last year, the value of non-oil imports decreased by 7.8 percent, while the weight increased by 1.16 percent.
Iran prioritizes the import of essential goods required by the country and imposes certain restrictions on importing products that are already produced domestically.
