BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 30. The Iranian government has purchased over 4.3 million tons of wheat from local farmers since April 5, 2025, said Majid Anjafi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Trend reports.
Speaking to local media, Anjafi noted that as of now, 54 percent of the payments due to farmers for the delivered wheat have been settled.
He added that they expect a total wheat harvest of between 10 and 11 million tons in the current year (from March 21, 2025, through March 20, 2026), of which around 8 million tons will be purchased from farmers under a guaranteed procurement scheme.
For the current year, wheat was sown on 6.39 million hectares across the country. Of this, 4.22 million hectares were rainfed lands, while 2.17 million hectares were irrigated areas.
Under the guaranteed purchase framework, the price for one kilogram of bread wheat has been set at 205,000 rials (about $0.38), and for durum wheat at 210,000 rials (about $0.39) in the current year (from March 21, 2025, through March 20, 2026).
