Daily gasoline consumption in Iran has fallen to 66.5 million liters in the week ended on July 3, which indicates a 143,000 liters decrease compared to the preceding week.
The weekly consumption amounted to 465.6 million liters, showing one million liters fall week on week, the oil ministry's official SHANA news agency reported July 5.
July 2 (Thursday) with 76.9 million liters, and July 3(Friday) with 59.1 million liters respectively recorded the highest and lowest rate of gasoline consumption in the mentioned week.
According to the report, 17.6 million liters of the consumed gasoline was premium in the 7-day period.
Meanwhile gasoline consumption in Tehran hit 93.8 million liters in the week ended on July 3, 2.1 million liters less compared to the previous week.
The average consumption per day amounted to 13.4 million liters, showing 300,000 liters per day fall week on week.
July 2 (Thursday) with 15.6 million liters per day, and June 27 (Saturday) with 10.7 million liters recorded the highest and lowest rate of gasoline consumption in the mentioned period in Iran's capital.
The country's gasoline output is currently around 62 million liters, so it needs to import the rest. The Islamic Republic currently only imports Euro-4 gasoline.
Gasoline consumption in the past Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20, 2015, rose by 1.8 percent compared to its preceding year, while production fell by 4 percent year on year.
Iran used to import 40 percent of its needed gasoline by 2009. But the international sanctions forced it to produce gasoline domestically by adding lead or some poisonous chemical catalysts to the product.
The administration of President Hassan Rouhani ordered to stop the distribution of substandard gasoline.
