On Sept. 14, Iran was host to the first Ukrainian trade delegation in 14 years where 80 companies in the wagon-making, tool-making, spare parts, and nuclear energy areas met Iranian counterparts.
Chairman of Iran Chamber of Commerce Mohsen Jalalpour said in the near future bilateral trade between Iran and Ukraine is expected to rise, therefore delegations to frequent between Iran and Ukraine are divided to five groups, Fars news website reported Sept. 15.
He explained that the delegations are: 1. Agriculture, animal husbandry, and food industries 2. Spare parts and airplane-making 3. Mine and related industries 4. Road, rail, and sea transportation 5. Oil, gas, energy, and power plants.
He pointed out that lack of transportation infrastructure between Iran and Ukraine has afflicted the trade and major improvements are needed there.
Jalalpour also called for a visa waiver between the two countries.
Ukraine is a country with 45 million people and an annual import of $70 billion.
Chairman of Ukraine Chamber of Commerce Gennady Chizhikov, for his part, said the current amount of trade between Iran and Ukraine is $1 billion. He said the number can be improved to $5 billion and added that Ukraine will be open to working with Iran in producing missiles, machines, and wagons.
The two representatives also signed several memorandums of understanding on agriculture, industry, mining, transport, and energy cooperation.
