By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran and Japan have agreed to sign an agreement to boost joint investment, customs and tax cooperation.
Iranian Deputy Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Mohammad Khazaee and Japanese Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Kentaro Sonoura met in Tehran, and called for enhancement of economic and trade ties, Iran 's IRNA news agency reported Sept. 21.
Signing such agreements is a positive measure that can encourage private sectors of the two countries to expand cooperation, Khazaee said.
He announced the Iranian banking and financial sector's readiness to improve bilateral ties with the Japanese counterparts.
Sonoura, for his part, said the Japanese aviation industry is prepared to help the Iranian air fleet be modernized through providing it with medium-size airplanes.
A trade delegation, led by Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Chairman Hiroyuki Ishige, is scheduled to visit Iran on Oct. 7, according to the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI).
The delegation will be comprised of CEOs of some companies from the Japanese private sector.
Iran exported $33.14 million of non-oil goods to Japan in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2015, while imported $235.03 million of non-oil goods from the country, according to the Iran Customs Administration. Trade between the two countries hovered around $2.5 billion before the imposition of Western-led sanctions against Iran in 2011.
