Greece has willingness to import Iranian gas, Hossein Esmaeili Shahmirzadi, the general director of Europe, America & Caspian Sea Countries Department at Iran’s Oil Ministry, told SHANA Dec. 20.
Shahmirzadi said that Hellenic Petroleum is one of Iran’s major oil clients in Europe.
“Greek companies have willingness to get involved in Iran’s upstream oil and gas projects as well”, he added.
Iran sells 700,000 barrels per day of oil and gas condensate to the EU.
Shahmirzadi didn’t mention how Greece can import Iranian gas, but currently Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) is being stretched from Caspian Sea to Italy through Greece.
SGC is aimed at exporting 10 billion cubic meters per year (bcm/y) of Azerbaijan’s gas to EU initially in 2021 (excluding 6 bcm/y of gas exports to Turkey), but its Turkish section (TANAP) and European section (TAP) have extra 15 bcm/y and 10 bcm/y capacity, respectively.
Iran plans to construct 9th cross-country pipeline (IGAT9) from South Pars gas field in southern regions to north-western regions on border with Azerbaijan and Turkey in 2017.
The pipeline’s capacity would be above 30 bcm/y intended to both supply gas to the domestic market and export it to Turkey and Europe.
