Iran-Pakistan trade will increase to $5 billion, said Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, heading Iran’s team in a joint economic meeting with Pakistani counterparts.
The two sides can boost their cooperation in economy, trade, energy, industry and tourism, the minister said, IRIB news agency reported Apr. 17.
In particular he noted that Iran is hugely boosting its energy, railroads, steel and petrochemical sectors in the country’s southeast and near the border with Pakistan.
Pointing to 900 kilometers of border between Iran and Pakistan as well as their cultural and religious bonds, Fazli said stronger bilateral trade ties will serve sustainable security at the common borders.
Iran-Pakistan trade turnover stood at $1.24 billion in the Iranian fiscal year that ended on March 21, 2015.
