Iran exported $13 million worth of goods to Azerbaijan via the 'suitcase trade' through Bilasuvar checkpoint during the last Iranian fiscal year (ended March 20).
The figure indicates a rise by $3 million as compared to the preceding year, Aram Halim, governor general of Bilasuvar said, IRNA news agency reported June 20.
Bilasuvar checkpoint ranked second among Iranian customs checkpoints in terms of suitcase trade, Halim said.
Over 6 million kilograms of goods were exported through the suitcase trade from Bilasuvar to Azerbaijan, he added.
Halim further said that about $25.85 million worth of goods were exported through Bilasuvar custom during the last fiscal year (ended March 20).
Agricultural and food products, glass, metals and plastic products, yarn fibers and tiles were the main exported items, Halim said.
Iran also imported about $1.75 million worth of goods via Bilasuvar customs during the 12-month period.
Over 3,000 people cross the border checkpoint of Bilasuvar between Iran and Azerbaijan every day, the official said.
