Iran’s gasoline consumption increased by 8.5 percent to 79 million liters during the four months of the current fiscal year, started on March 20.
“The huge growth in gasoline consumption is not expected to continue at the same pace during the following months,” Deputy Petroleum Minister Abbas Kazemi told IRNA news agency.
He added that the average growth of gasoline consumption in Iran may stand at 5 percent during the whole of year.
The report says during the four months of the current fiscal year, the auto production and imports increased by 37 percent and 21 percent respectively.
Over 1.448 million of various new vehicles were sold at Iran’s market in 2016, according to the latest report of the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), released on July 17.
The figure indicates a rise by 18.5 percent year-on-year, however it is still less than 1.688 million of vehicles sold in the country in 2011.
According to an official document, prepared by Iran's Oil Ministry and seen by Trend, Iran’s gasoline import increased by about 25 percent to 12.1 million liters per day during the last fiscal year, while its gasoline consumption reached 74.75 million liters per day.
