Over 8.1 million tons of crude steel was produced in Iran during the first half of the current fiscal year (March 20-Sept. 22, 2017).
The figure shows a rise by 14 percent compared to the same period last year, the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), said in a message.
The country’s iron concentrate output stood at 18.8 million tons in the same time span, registering a rise by 21 percent.
Also 15.3 million tons of Iron ore pellets were produced in the country in the six-month period, 25 percent more year-on-year.
Iran’s steel products’ output also reached 5.2 million tons in the period, which is 5 percent more while compared to the first half of preceding year.
The Islamic Republic exported $486 million worth of iron ore (52 percent more year-on-year) and $458 million worth of semi-completed iron and steel products (677 percent increase) in the six-month period.
Based on a 2025 outlook, Iran’s steel output is to reach 55 million tons, 15 million of which should be exported. For the current Iranian year, it is predicted that Iran will produce 18 million tons of steel, exporting 6 million tons of it.
