Iran’s iron, steel industry registers output growth

Iran’s major state-run iron ore companies produced about 21.88 million tons of iron ore concentrate during the first seven months of the current fiscal year (March 20-Oct. 22).

The figure indicates a 19 percent increase compared to the preceding year, the Islamic Republic’s Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) said on Nov. 11.

Gol Gohar Iron Ore Co. ranked first producing 8.03 million tons of iron ore concentrate, followed by Chadormalou with 4.92 million tons of output.

Markazi (2.86 million tons), Gohar Zamin (2.47 million tons), Middle East Mine Industries Development Holding Company (2.18 million tons), and Sangan (1.21 million tons) were among the other leading iron ore concentrate producers.

The report didn’t include the volume of iron ore produced by private sector companies, which produce a total of 14 million tons of iron ore annually.

The aforementioned companies produced a total of 3.5 million tons of iron ore granule in the first seven months of the current fiscal year (a 7 percent fall year-on-year).

Markazi company was the biggest iron ore granule producer in the period with 1.05 million output.

Also 17.96 million tons of Iron ore pellets were produced in the country in the 7-month period, 24 percent more year-on-year. Gol Gohar was the largest Iron ore pellet producer(6.12 million tons), followed by Mobarakeh Steel company(4.43 million tons), Khouzestan Steel company(3.76 million tons) and Chadormalou(1.86 million tons).

Over 6.11 million tons of steel products were produced in Iran during the first seven months of current fiscal year, 5 percent more year on year.

The country’s steel ingot output stood at 9.571 million tons in the same time span, registering a rise by 14 percent.

Iran’s total iron ore reserve stands at 5.1 billion tons, of which 2.8 billion tons are proven.
