Romania is interested to buy natural gas from Iran, Amir Hossein Zamaninia, the Islamic Republic's deputy oil minister for International Affairs, said.
Zamaninia made the remarks following a meeting with Virgil-Daniel Popescu, chairman of Iran-Romania Parliamentary Friendship Group in Tehran on Nov. 12.
The two sides discussed boosting cooperation in energy sector, Zamaninia said, the oil ministry’s official website reported.
Romanian companies are interested to involve in Iran’s oil industry projects, he said, adding that the companies have expressed readiness to cooperate with Iranian counterparts in manufacturing oil and gas industry equipments.
With 33.5 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, Iran has the largest conventional gas reserves in the world.
Back in May, Zamaninia told Trend that the EU’s gas market is oversupplied and exporting Iranian gas to that market would not be profitable. Zamaninia noted that it would rather be in Iran’s interest if nearby markets were sought.
The Romanian MP also met with Hossein Amirabdollahian, Iranian parliament speaker advisor for international affairs on Nov. 12.
In the meeting, Amirabdollahian called for removing visa requirements between Iran and Romania and facilitating banking cooperation between the two countries.
Popescu, for his turn, welcomed holding negotiations between Iran and Romania chambers of commerce and private sectors.
He referred to visa waiver for the two countries, saying fruitful talks are under way in Romania to solve this problem for the Iranian businessmen and students.
