The first gas sweetening train in Phase 13 of South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf came into stream.
The train has started injecting sweet gas into the national gas grid, the oil ministry’s official SHANA news agency reported.
Payam Motamed, operator of the phases’ development project said that the sweetening train of the Phase 13 recives 7 million cubic meters of soar gas per day.
The train at the moment recives soar gas from fifth cross-country gas pipeline and injects sweet gas into sixth cross-country pipeline, he added.
Motamed further said that the second gas sweetening train of the phase’s refinery will become operational in coming weeks.
He added that the Phase 13 of South Pars Gas field is completed by 89 percent.
Construction of the offshore platforms of the phase has made 85 percent progress, Motamed said, adding that laying offshore pipelines is completed by 78 percent and drilling the wells in the sea has made 86 percent progress.
The onshore section of the phase has also witnessed 92 percent progress, he said.
Phase 13 developments project–aimed at producing 56 million cubic meters of natural gas per day–is planed to be completed during the current fiscal year, started March 20.
The project will also produce 2,900 tons of liquefied petroleum gas, 2,750 tons of ethane, 75,000 barrels of ultra light crude, known as condensate, and 400 tons of sulfur per day.
Phase 13 development employs four offshore platforms, including 38 wells which will take extracted gas via 32-inch pipelines to onshore facilities, including four gas refining units each with a daily processing capacity of 14 million cubic meters.
A consortium of local firms, namely Iran Marine Industrial Company or SADRA, energy conglomerate MAPNA and Petro Paydar Iranian Company, is developing the Phase 13.
South Pars gas field with 14 trillion cubic meters of reserves on the Iranian side is jointly owned with Qatar. Iran divided its side of the field into 24 phases and the field's final output capacity is expected to be above 800 mcm/d after launching all phases.
The field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are in Qatar's territorial waters.
