Director of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Projects at the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Hamid Ghasemi Dehcheshmeh says reducing natural gas consumption could help increase the country’s gas exports.
“Undoubtedly, reducing gas consumption can increase the country’s exports and develop its CNG industry,” Ghasemi Dehcheshmeh said on May 1 during the Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce meeting, SHANA news agency reported.
CNG is a viable investment industry and cutting the gas consumption can improve the prospects of its export, he added.
Ghasemi Dehcheshmeh expressed hope that Iran and Iraq can boost their cooperation in the field of CNG.
National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) plans to construct at least 10 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in neighboring Iraq, according to Iranian media.
Iran, which sits on the largest gas reserves in the world, seeks to enhance gas production by increasing foreign and domestic investments.
The country has the world’s largest CNG-powered car fleet of nearly 4 million.
Iran is currently delivering 12 million cubic meters of gas to Baghdad on a daily basis. Iraq is the second largest gas customer of Iran after Turkey, which imports 30 million cubic meters of gas from Iran per day.
