Iranian petrochemical complexes produced 13.2 million tons of products in the first quarter of the current fiscal year (March 20- June 21), Qodratollah Farajpour, director for production control in National Petrochemical Company (NPC), said.
The output registered was equal to 77 percent of the country’s nominal production capacity for the 3-month period, Farajpour said, the press office of the NPC announced.
Farajpour further said that base petrochemicals accounted for 41 percent (5.4 million tons) of the total output, followed by Petrochemical feedstock (3.4 million tons or 26 percent), polymers (1.7 million tons or 12 percent), fertilizers (1.6 million tons or 12 percent) and aromatics (1.1 million tons of 8 percent).
He added that Iran’s petrochemical complexes produced 1.52 million tons of urea fertilizer in the first three months of the current fiscal year.
Farajpour also said that the country’s petrochemical production capacity in the current fiscal year (started March 20) is expected a 17 percent growth given the inauguration of new projects, elimination of obstacles and production performance improvement.
The nominal output capacity of the country’s 57 petrochemical complexes stands at 62 million tons per year.
Earlier Reza Norouzzadeh, managing director of the NPC, said that Iran’s petrochemical output is expected to reach 63 million tons during the current fiscal year. He added that the export share from the sale is expected to reach 27 million tons, worth $14 billion.
The country hopes to bring the nominal petrochemical production capacity to 120 million tons by 2020 and 160 million tons by 2025.
